  • Jan 1, 2009. You gotta have cat names

If you hover over the pics you'll see their names so far. Only Cricket/Graybee/Lightfoot has yet to be named. Leaning toward Cricket or Cricky.

The mama cat is named Mama. She's da Momma. She's a smart one.

Boon is a torty like Mama. She is so much like Mama that we started calling her Junior, then Bunior then just Boon.(pronounce the oo in Boon like the u in Junior)

Moggie was at first called Siam (I am) or Creamy due to his coloring. He was a lot lighter when younger and was the color of cream. But what kind of a name is that for a boy cat? Hmmm? Somehow "Moggie" popped up in my mind. So I decided I'd better do an internet search and make sure this wasn't a bad thing in some language. Turns out that it is an English and Anglo Saxon term of endearment for a cat. Goes way back. And it also is used as a term to describe a cat that appears to be exceptional in breed but can't be verified. There were also a number of discrepancies of the origin. The term goes back hundreds of years.

Need a name for the gray cat. Boon caught a cricket the other day. So let Boon decide? Might fit in. After all, when you have more than 1 cat or critter you have to have names that sound different to identify with each one. It's really just establishing name identity and tone of voice.

Mama knows her name already. Boon is learning her name. Moggie may be starting to catch on. But the poor Graybee/Cricket hasn't got a name yet. Send me an email if you have a suggestion.

  • Jan 8, 2009. Have a name for the Cricket/Graybee/Lightfoot

It just came out, TinkerButton. That should be interesting when we take her to the vet. She does have the brown splotches on her chest and foot. When she looks at you, you get the feeling she is intensely studying you.

  • Friday, Jan 23, 2009. We took Mama in for exam and shots.

Mama went wild. Climbed the walls and almost got through the ceiling tiles 8 feet up. Vet came in and managed to capture Mama in a towel, wrapped her up simulating a cat in the womb and Mama mellowed out big time. Vet also said, "You've got 3 females that could go into heat at any time and a male who could mature early. Let's get them in Monday before a disaster happens.

  • Monday, Jan 26, 2009. Three spays and a Neuter

We rounded up the whole gang for a new experience. A trip to the vet. Not something even the most docile of cats like. And when you cage one cat it tells the rest, "Run and flee, they be trying to eat ye." It was a battle between the humans who know best and the cats. Not fun but once it was done it was done. Within a few days, all were back to normal.
