Leafy Seadragons. An actual fish species. Visit my Aquarium pages

Synganthidae Phycodurus equus is a relative of the seahorse. Besides their bizarre appearance another interesting aspect of their lives is that the female lays her eggs (between 100-200) on the male where they remain until hatching. Their only known habitat is the temperate waters off Southern Australia. The Australian gov't has declared them a protected species. But the protection only applies to 'Western' Australian waters. That's gov't I guess. I don't think the Leafy Seadragons care that the Aussie gov't doesn't know South from West.
